Ingredients:

  • 1 can pillsbury pizza dough
  • 1 lb chicken Italian sausage
  • 1 package pepperoni
  • 4-6 oz mozzarella cheese
  • Sliced black olives
  • Pizza sauce

Directions: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. On a sheet tray with a silpat or piece of parchment paper, remove the pizza dough from the can and split into two even sized pieces for the two calzones. Next, you can start adding the toppings that you’d like. The great thing about the calzones is that you can get really creative about what you want in there. These are our typical toppings but of course, there are so many different combinations that you could try. Stew likes to have his pizza sauce in his calzone while I like to have mine on the side to dip once it’s baked.

If you want sauce in your calzone, start with that on the bottom, followed by the sausage, pepperoni, olives, and cheese. These should all be on the side of the dough closest to you so that you can fold over the top and close it up. Twist the sides together to close properly and prevent everything from flowing out during baking. Cut 2 or 3 slits into the top of the calzone to allow steam to escape. Add the calzones to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until browned to your liking.

Remove from the oven and set aside to cool for a few minutes. You can either leave the calzones whole or cut them in half. Serve with extra pizza sauce on the side if desired.
