Homemade Granola

Time: 30 minutes

Makes: 3 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds are great)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a microwave safe bowl, microwave the butter and honey in 30 second intervals until the honey is starting to bubble and the butter can melt into it. Next add the oats, nuts, cinnamon, and salt to the butter and honey mixture and stir to combine, ensuring all of the oats are coated.

Add the granola mixture to the baking sheet and spread it out into an even layer. Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, stirring everything around at the 10 minute mark to ensure it’s baking evenly.

Remove from the oven after 20 minutes and if you want it to be clumpy, press it all together with a spatula and let it cool completely on the sheet. It might seem a little wet still at the end of the 20 minute baking time but that’s okay and it’ll still set up nicely. Once it’s cooled completely, break into your desired size of pieces and place in an air tight container or baggy. Keeps for about a month!

Notes: You’re more than welcome to customize this to your liking. You can add a variety of different nuts to the granola and you can even add some dried fruit. The dried fruit should be added when the granola comes out of the oven before pressing it all together to cool. You could also used maple syrup instead of honey if you like that flavor better. The original recipe called for a neutral oil instead of butter but everything is better with butter so that’s how I like to do mine.
