Ingredients:
- 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced into half rounds
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4-5 bratwurst
- Outdoor rolls, or other kind of hot dog bun or hoagie roll
- Mustard, if desired
- Fruit, chips, etc for serving
Directions: In medium sautée pan on medium-heat, add the butter and olive oil followed by the thinly sliced onions. Season with salt and pepper and slowly caramelize, stirring occasionally. When the onions are caramelized and browned to your liking, remove from the heat and set aside for assembly.
While the onions are cooking, preheat the oven to 375 on convection bake. Take a foil lined quarter sheet pan and put a small cooling rack on it. Place the bratwurst on top so they have good air flow during the cooking process and place in the oven. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the sausages are cooked through and are golden brown and starting to crisp.
When the sausages are finished, you can start building on your bun. We like to do the bratwurst topped with the caramelized onions and mustard.
