Cheese-stuffed Italian Sausage Sandwiches

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (5 total) hot Italian sausages
  • 5 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 jar marinara sauce
  • 5 hoagie rolls

Directions: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and add half to 3/4 of a jar of marinara sauce to the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish. Using a paring knife, cut a slit down the middle of each sausage, leaving the top and bottom fully intact. You’re basically creating a well for the cheese stick to lay in. Once the sausages are cut, add the cheese stick to the sausage and nestle them into the sauce, cheese side up.

Add the baking dish to the oven and bake for at least 30 minutes or until the sausages are cooked through and the cheese is sufficiently melted. You’re more than welcome to pop them under the broiler once they’re cooked as well if you want the cheese to get some color. Remove from the oven and add a sausage to each hoagie roll, spooning over additional marinara sauce if desired.
