Chicken Burgers

Time: 30 minutes

Feeds: 2 people

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1/3-1/2 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 4 slices Colby jack cheese
  • 2 burger buns
  • Whatever condiments you’d like to top the burgers with

Directions: In a bowl, add the breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Give those a mix to get everything dispersed well and then add the ground chicken. Using your clean hands, mix everything together so that everything is incorporated but not so much that the meat mixture becomes tight. Separate the mixture in two. I usually put some Saran Wrap on top of my kitchen scale and weigh the two balls and get them as close in size as possible. Shape these into 1 inch thick patties with a divot in the middle.

Add the chicken patties to a cold nonstick pan and heat over medium. Start flipping the patties every few minutes so they don’t develop too much color on either side. If you think they’re browning too fast, you can turn down the heat. It’s important to temp your patties to ensure that they’ve reached 165 degrees and are cooked all the way through. Once they’ve hit 165 degrees, top each patty with two pieces of cheese. Turn the heat off and add a small amount of water to the bottom of the pan, no more than a couple of tablespoons. Throw a lid on the pan and let the cheese melt with the steam created from the water.

Place the chicken patties on the buns and either add whatever condiments you’d like directly onto the burger or place them on the plate so that you can dip the burger. Cut the burgers in half and enjoy!
