Time: 1 – 1 1/2 hours
Feeds: 2-4 people
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2/3 pound Jimmy Dean sausage
- 1 egg
- 1/2-3/4 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp Diamond Crystal Kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp MSG, optional
- 1/2 cup ketchup, plus more for on top of the meatloaf while cooking
- Roasted potatoes, to serve on the side
Directions: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, line a baking sheet with foil and start to mix up your meatloaf. In a bowl, add the ground beef, Jimmy dean sausage, seasonings listed above, egg, and breadcrumbs. Meatloaf is a little about feel so some of these amounts might need to be adjusted slightly to get the right texture. You’ll want it to be fairly moist but not wet if that makes sense. When mixing the meatloaf together, be sure not to over mix or the meatloaf could become tough.
When the meatloaf is the consistency that you’re looking for, spray your baking sheet with nonstick spray and form your meatloaf into a rough loaf. I try to go with something football shaped making sure the middle of the loaf isn’t too tall or thick so you can get an even bake on it. Add ketchup to the top of the meatloaf and place in the oven, baking until the middle has reached 165 degrees, about an hour but it’s going to depend on the thickness of your loaf. The top should be browned with the ketchup caramelized.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Cut into slices and serve with roasted potatoes if desired. This is also great with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or just veggies.
